Truth & Reconciliation

Truth & Reconciliation has been called for since the inception of this country; some white people have answered the call, but not enough. That changed during the Civil Rights Movement when overt and explicit racism could be seen on the nightly news, but with the passing of the Civil Rights amendments, there was a notion that reconciliation was not needed anymore because racism was over.

Truth has not yet happened–most white people have not taken responsibility and entered the two-way street of healing the great racial wounds.

Reconciliation cannot be declared by white people and by any structure of whiteness. The offender cannot set the terms for meaning, reconciliation, restitution, or restoration.

Truth & Reconciliation is an opportunity for white people to say: we are ready for truth and to take the needed steps for reconciliation. It is a movement to bring other white folks in so that recompense can be made. It requires listening to people of color, acknowledging the existence of white supremacy, and learning how to create a whole new way of living.

Why:

The Truth & Reconciliation movement persists because white folks have not yet come to the table of truth and allowed healing to take place. The only thing holding us back from repair is white power.
